MARSHALL ON FIRE IN NORTHSTAR DEBUT

Robbie Marshall showed that back flips and freestyle antics have not slowed him down as he claimed victory in the Pro Lites class at round two of the Queensland Stadium Motocross Series held on Saturday Night on the Gold Coast.

Debuting his Northstar Yamaha ride, Marshall took a race to blow out the cobwebs on his YZ250F where he crossed the line 6th, before beating the opposition into submission in the second leg to take an impressive victory. He then fought off a spirited charge from Serco Yamaha’s Daniel McCoy, a result that would determine the winner on the night, to finish second in moto 3 and claim the overall win.

The result was all the more impressive as it was against a top quality, almost national championship calibre field. Names like Daniel Reardon (Kawasaki), Jake Moss (Serco Yamaha), Daniel McCoy (Serco Yamaha), Mitch Hoad (Kawasaki) as well as up and coming guns Nick Geck (Pro Kawasaki) and Scott Jackson (Pro Yamaha) all fronted the starter, but Marshall proved he had the goods and walked away the winner.

"I am pretty motivated at the moment so it was important for me to kick off my year with a good start. To win here was nice and against some good riders, who are factory assisted, makes it even better," Robbie commented not long after the final leg. I also have to say a big thank you to Northstar Yamaha and Michael Edwards for showing some faith in me and the guys at MX World with their assistance in the past few weeks," he finishes.

Marshall also did double time last night and competed in the Pro Open class on board his YZ450F. His 3-4-5 moto scores were good for fourth overall on the night and narrowly missed the podium.

"My starts on the 450 weren’t quite as good as they needed to be and it’s something I will have to work on if I want to win both classes next week," said Marshall.

Also making a solid outing for the Northstar Yamaha dealership was Mat McKenna. The veteran put in top performances all night and was consistently towards the front of the pack. Only a late fall in the Lites class in the final moto dashed his chances of a top showing in both categories.

"I would liked to have finished with a good overall result, but you can’t do that when you crash in the pro classes," Matt commented. But 6th and 7th on the night wasn’t too bad and if I eliminate a few mistake I should be a bit higher."

Both Northstar Yamaha boys will be back in action next Saturday Night, January 20 for the third and final round of the Queensland Stadium Motocross Series held at the Brisbane Ekka Grounds.
